Debian Squeeze vncviewer Doesn’t Display Graphical Output

Starting vncserver on a new newly installed debian squeeze machine and accessing the server through vncviewer on the remove machine may not give you the graphical display all the time. Here is a small tweak that can help you get the graphical display.

Open up the following file,

squeeze@dlp:~$ vi .vnc/xstartup

and add the following 2 lines at the end of the file.

# add follows
exec gnome-session &

If you already have the vncsession running, you can kill it using the following command. In the following command 11 is the port number of the session!

vncserver -kill :11

Now use the following command, In the following command 11 is the port number of the session!

vncserver :11 -pn -geometry 1440×1040

Now start the vnc with the port 11 and hopefully the GUI should show up!
