By | February 10, 2012

This article will help you findout the amount of free disk space available (which you can use) in a particular directory. This can be done in two simple steps.

First findout which filesystem the directory belongs to. Let’s say, you want to findout for /home/ directory, you can do it using the following command.

df /home/

This will display, all the filesystem info. You can check the total, used and available space out there. Now the “available” space is the free disk space in the directory you are looking for.
